This Is Not a Government Office or Records Custodian. Houston Residents Directory is a private reference, so it cannot retrieve records, certify copies, verify a current address, or change an official roll. Send those requests to the office that maintains the record. For an emergency, call 911. If someone is stalking or harassing you, contact local police.

Where to Request a Houston Record

Use the record type to select the proper Houston or Harris County custodian. The most direct starting routes are:

For deeds, plats, recorded instruments, and older real-property access, contact the Harris County Clerk Public Records Department, Harris County Civil Courthouse, 201 Caroline, Suite 310, Houston, TX 77002, 713-274-8680. The real-property counter is in Suite 320. The Clerk’s public-records information covers land records, historical books, copy paths, and related public records.

For appraisal cards, account records, and parcel information, contact Harris Central Appraisal District, 13013 Northwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77040, 713-957-7800. HCAD lists regular hours as Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Its Property Search is the online route for account, owner-name, and property-address searches; earlier appraisal material may require a request to HCAD.

For historical city directories, newspapers, genealogy material, and limited reference requests, contact the Clayton Library Family History Research Center, 5300 Caroline St., Houston, TX 77004, 832-393-2600. Clayton staff does not conduct broad research by phone, but Houston Public Library documents a limited reference-request route for address research.
