Information You Provide
A name, phone number, or address submitted in a search form is sent to the independent provider that supplies results. Houston Residents Directory does not keep a copy of those searches on its servers. If you contact us, we receive the contents of your message and use them to answer it.
Automatically Collected Data
Like most hosted services, the site records standard server-log details such as an IP address, browser type, pages requested, and time stamps. We review that information in aggregate for security, site operation, and audience measurement. Cookies or comparable tools may also support basic analytics and, if used, advertising measurement.
How Information Is Used
We use the limited information described above to operate Houston Residents Directory, address technical issues, measure traffic, and improve its reference material. We do not sell lists of visitors or create individual visitor profiles.
External Services and Links
Links may lead to Harris County and Texas record custodians, library collections, archives, or independent search services. The privacy practices of those destinations govern information you provide after leaving this site. That includes sponsored results delivered by a separate company.
Parties That May Process Data
Hosting and support providers process logs on our behalf. Analytics or advertising providers may receive the automatically collected data described above. Information is disclosed when valid legal process requires disclosure, and otherwise only as described in this policy.
Security and Retention
The site uses an encrypted connection, and server logs are retained only for the operational purposes stated here. There are no user accounts, passwords, or visitor profiles maintained by Houston Residents Directory for an account breach to expose.
Visitors Under 18
This service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If you believe a minor sent us personal information, contact us so it can be removed.
Your Privacy Choices
The Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, Tex. Bus. & Com. Code ch. 541, gives covered private entities consumer rights that can include access, correction, deletion, and certain opt-out choices. It does not make a consumer request the same as a public-record request to a Texas governmental body. For the limited data we keep, we will search our contact mailbox and relevant logs and remove information we can lawfully remove after a request through the Contact page.
Government-held records follow the Texas Public Information Act, Tex. Gov't Code ch. 552, and the relevant custodian's rules. Birth and death records have separate confidentiality limits under Tex. Gov't Code ยง552.115. The Texas Address Confidentiality Program also provides a substitute mailing address and mail forwarding for eligible participants. Requests to change or remove a public record must go to the office that holds it, not to this site.
Changes to This Policy
We will post a revised policy here when our practices change. Continuing to use Houston Residents Directory after a revision means you accept the revised policy.
